Meet Dr. Chao Shen
Dr. Chao Shen grew up in Portland, OR. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve while attending college at Oregon State University. During his junior year at OSU, he was mobilized for a deployment to Iraq as a Civil Affairs Specialist.
Dr. Shen then went on to attend dental school at Oregon Health & Science University and obtained his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree. He continued his military service and was commissioned in the U.S. Army as an active-duty Dental Corps Officer. Dr. Shen furthered his dental education by completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at Fort Campbell, KY. He was then stationed in Germany, where he treated active-duty service members, their dependents, and retirees.
After more than a decade of military service, Dr. Shen resigned his Commission and returned to Portland. Once home, he practiced at Kaiser Permanente for several years before deciding to return to OHSU to complete his graduate endodontics residency.
